Friday Sketchers

>> Friday, 27 February 2009

Two project completed tonight!! One I can't show you until next Thursday but I had to put some ink on my new WOJ stamps that arrived this morning so I made a card following the FS sketch. Although its a simple sketch I had to really think about how I wanted this card to look. I chose my paper first which is a lovely sheet from a K & Co 6 x 6 pad and is beautifully framed with subtle flourishes. I kept the colouring soft with watercolour pencils and distress inks and just a little Tea Dye distress ink to sponge around the image.

Align LeftFor the left hand panel I embossed a strip of vellum and then cut a Sizzix flourish with coordinating K & Co paper. I cut my sentiment panel from my scalloped Nesties, inked the edges with distress ink and hung it with some thread. The sentiment is from Woodware and the flowers are a mixture of Making Memories, Craft Barn and punches.

Whimsy DT Call

>> Tuesday, 24 February 2009

Whimsy Stamps have a DT call so I thought I would have a go and enter a card!! This card is for my nephew who will be 5 in a few weeks time. This weeks Papertake sketch was perfect for this card, although I had to move the image down a bit to fit in the balloons. The stamp is from Spiral Whisper (designed by Janet Roberts) and I've coloured him with watercolours. The paper is from a very old DCWV pad and all the cardstock is Coredinations. The balloons and letters are Quickutz dies and tying them together was the most fiddly of jobs!! I've added his name on the balloons to the inside of the card.

Ismaki Sketch

It's ages since I've taken part in the Ismaki challenge but this weeks sketch is fantastic so I had to join in. I'm really please with how this card has turned out. I coloured my Sugar Nellie image with distress inks and water colours and I did it at lunchtime today - daylight makes all the different!! The DP is from K & Co and all the cardstock is Bazzil. For the vertical panel I took a cream piece of card from my scraps box, ran it through the Cuttlebug using the birds and swirls embossing folder and then used some Tea Dye distress ink on a piece of cut & dry foam to gently swipe over the top to get the pattern to stand out.

I even managed to colour the background of my image with distress ink without getting lines or dark blodges! I dampened my cut and dry foam and, on the watercolour paper, this seems to work. I don't now how other people manage to get such smooth, even background colour but this worked OK for me!

The flowers have also been sponged with distress ink and have cinnamon brads from Lasting Impressions added to the centre. I don't have any leaf punches but a I had rummage in my goodies draw and found some long forgotten skeleton leaves which go really well with this colour scheme.

Cute Card Thursday/Friday Sketchers

>> Friday, 20 February 2009

Woo hoo! I won last weeks Friday Sketchers challenge! What a great start to the day.

I hadn't planned to make a card tonight but after making a cheesecake and a regular cake ready for when my parents visit tomorrow, I really wanted to get some ink on my fingers. This weeks Friday Sketchers sketch is nice a simple and really suited to just one patterned paper. I thought this BG 'Perhaps' paper was very Spring like and perfect for this weeks Cute Card Thursday challenge. I've used Tilda with Margarites, masked her and then stamped the fence. She's coloured with distress inks, H2O's (yellow flowers) and then my trusted tombow pens for the grass and to add a bit of shading behind her. I coloured her wings with my new glitter pen.

I added some Doodlebug flower eyelets but you have to look quite closely to make out the flower shape! The sentiment is from a Woodware set. And I've even managed to decorate the inside! Its pretty simple, just a piece of the same BG paper with a square of white card. I used my Martha Stewart lace doily punch on both and stamped a Woodware daffodil which I coloured with H2O's.

Whiff of Joy - Guest DT call

>> Thursday, 19 February 2009

Well I can dream can't I?!!!

There's a great sketch from Katherina to follow and I played around with loads of different papers before deciding on these K & Co ones. I used my Martha Stewart punch for the scalloped edge and all the paper is mounted onto bazzil cardstock. Willow has been coloured with Prismas. She's quite a big girl (you know what I mean, she takes up quite a bit of 'white' space when you stamp her) so I decided to cut her out and I've attached her to the card with sticky fixers. I made the flower myself and used a few bits from a Sizzix flourish for the leaves. The sentiment is by Woodware and stamped onto a Quickutz circle.

Truly Scrumptious is up & running!

>> Wednesday, 18 February 2009

Woo hoo!! It's finally here, the launch of the Truly Scrumptious challenge blog! The first challenge is a sketch (designed by me!) and the DT have made some gorgeous cards. I do hope you will be able to join us. We have a fantastic prize from our sponsor, Alota Rubber Stamps, which is even more of an incentive to join in!

I have been saving these DP's to use on my first DT card. They are from Crate Paper and are doublesided so the colours go together really well. Tilda is coloured with distress inks and watercolours, the green square brads are from Making Memories and I've layered two ribbons across the bottom, using just the purple one for my bow. I was so concerned that this card should look its best I even ironed the ribbon!!

I hope you enjoy the new blog - leave us a comment and let us know what you think.

Spots & Stripes

>> Monday, 16 February 2009

I'm not used to having crafting time on a Monday but as my classes have stopped for the week I thought I would make a card for a couple of challenges. This card is for the Colour Create challenge (red, white & blue) and the new Willow Sketchie challenge. I didn't think I had much stash using these colours so I raided my drawers and turned out everything red and used pretty much all of it on this card!! The papers is the reverse side of a Daisy Bucket scrap and the stripey panel is SEI & is ancient! Tilda is coloured with Prismas and I've mounted the circles on sticky fixers as they wouldn't sit flat otherwise.

I've put the sentiment tags in the wrong place (sorry - the sketch said to put the sentiment at the bottom) and I'll write on them when I know what I'm going to use the card for. The stitches are there because I had red thread!!

Sketch Saturday

>> Sunday, 15 February 2009

I hope everyone had a lovely Valentine's Day. We had a lovely day (a rare Saturday off for Dave) and I was taken out for lunch as well as receiving two lovely boxes of chocolates.

I did manage to sneak an hour away to make a start on this card and I finished it off earlier today. I've flipped the sketch as I preferred my vertical panel on the left. All the papers are K & Co and I love their vintage feel. They are quite an unusual colour though, a sort of paprika with a bit of pink and some tiny blue dots. Much as I love my distress inks the colours are quite limited so I used Prismas for this card, added highlights with an Inkessentials pen and a little glitter to Chloe's hair bow. I used chalk to shade the background and stamped the swirl (a freebie with CM&P magazine) with Bark Versacolor ink. The brads are Lasting Impressions, the sentiment was a freebie when I bought some stamps from FunkyKits and the corner flourish is a Cuttlebug die.

Only a couple more days until the launch of the Truly Scrumptious Blog which is so exciting! Some of the DT have sent their pictures already and the cards are fab so I hope you will all join us on Wednesday!

Friday Sketchers

>> Friday, 13 February 2009

This card very nearly reduced me to tears! Tilda was all coloured in but I made the mistake of edging the card with distress ink which I promptly smudged. I tried to clean it up with a waterbrush which only made it worse so she ended up in the bin and I had to start all over again. I am pleased with how this card has turned out though. I wanted to use the flowers on the paper (Dasiy Bucket) so I cut it so they would be on the right of the card and just highlighted them with paper flowers and tiny buttons.

Tilda is coloured with distress inks & water colours and I used yellow H20 on the bow but it wasn't sparkly enough so I added some stickles. This card also qualifies for this week Charisma Cardz challenge which is 'Cupcakes' and the Secret Crafter challenge which this week is 'Spring has Sprung'.

Basic Grey/Whiff of Joy

>> Wednesday, 11 February 2009

I sat down at the weekend to try this weeks Basic Grey challenge which is to use papers from different collections. I sat there and I sat there and eventually gave up! But tonight, after planning to do this weeks WOJ recipe challenge it suddenly came together.

When I won the Sketch Saturday challenge last year, the lovely Gill sent me a few extra images with my prize and I've coloured one of those with my Prisma pencils for this card. The papers I've used are BG Urban Prairie and Two Scoops. I got the lovely spacer from the Stitch & Creative Crafts show and the flowers are Prima and Making Memories.

Lovely new stash!

>> Tuesday, 10 February 2009

A little package landed on my doormat today. Inside were two lovely Kay & Co pads and two cute Magnolia stamps. So I had to ink up this adorable Tilda tonight and I've made a card for this weeks Papertake challenge (sketch) and a Spoon Full of Sugar (doodles). The papers are my new Kay & Co and I've coloured Tilda with distress inks. I stamped a flourish in the top right hand corner under the flower but it's a bit faint, as is the sentiment which is stamped in bark Versacolor onto Bazzil Bling. I doodled a border around Tilda but in hindsight maybe I should have done something a bit swirly?

Sugar Sugar

I've got a few photos that I want to send my cousin so I thought I would make a wallet to send them. I wanted to have a go at the Sugar Sugar tag card challenge so I adapted the design slightly so it would open at the side and be the right size to hold a couple of 6 x 4 photos.

I've coloured the image with distress inks and water colours and then used distress ink to shade the background. The papers are Crate Paper and all the card is bazzil. The flowers are Making Memories and the Craft Barn; ribbon, lace and brads are from my stash.

On the inside there is a little wallet to slide the photos in and then space on the left for a message.

Friday Sketchers meets Cute Card Thursday

>> Friday, 6 February 2009

Two great challenges again! The CCT challenge is 'metallica' - use some metal on your card and a great sketch from Claudia at FS. It took me ages to choose what papers to use for this card. I'm sure I'm not the only one who tends to use all their lovely new stash and then the old stuff gets pushed to the bottom of the drawer. So I had a good rummage tonight and found these BG Ambrosia papers. I've used a Sizzix flourish which I cut in two and my metal elements are the flower centre (spacer & brad) and the charm. The sentiment is also metal - its a Woodware staple which was a freebie when I subscribed to Craft Stamper magazine.

Well the snow is starting to melt here. Its been a glorious day, lots of sunshine. My manager phoned to say the office in inaccessible because of the snow so I had a day at home! I did check my emails but Thomas, Benji & I went for a lovely long walk and I spent a good few hours looking at the blogs of all the people who would like to be on the Truly Scrumptious DT. There are so many talented people out there, its going to be a very hard decision.

I've used the sketch from this weeks Spoon Full of Sugar challenge and the card also qualifies for this weeks Papertake challenge which is 'hearts & flowers'. I didn't manage to get any hearts in but there are a few flowers! I coloured Autumn Milly (designed by Janet Roberts) with water colours and distress inks. I've outlined Milly with a pale blue Tombow pen and then blended it with an aqua brush. The DP's are from the BG Sugared collection and the flowers are a mixture of Making Memories, Prima and Craft Barn.

Off to blog hop a bit more and chose a DT - very exciting!!

The big topic of the day? SNOW! We haven't seen this much for about 20 years. There's about 5 inches on top of our garden table and its still falling. Of course the entire country has ground to a halt but we should know to expect this really!! Thomas, Benji and I went out for a walk this morning. Ben loves to roll around in the snow and Thomas was completely unimpressed with the whole experience. I hope to be back later with a card - I've had to cancel my Pilates class tonight which means an extra evening of crafting.

A great new challenge blog launched today. Colour Create will challenge you each week to make a card using different colour combinations. This week it is pink, green and brown. This BG Eva paper has been sitting in my drawer for a while now so I thought it was the perfect opportunity to combine the CC challenge with the BG challenge which this week is a sketch.

This is 6 x 6 card which is cut from Bazzil cardstock (bought from Crafty Obsessions who are very reasonably priced). Tilda is coloured with distress inks and I cut a nesties frame and mounted it on top of a brown embossed panel. The flourish is my new Sissix die and the flowers are a Quickutz die. I've added some stickles to the flower centres and used my glitter pen on Tilda's hair bows. The sentiment has been hung from the flourish with some knotted jewellery thread.
